Well, what I would like to know is this.

Are we looking to replace just Terrell Owens, or the entire offence? You wouldn't replace the entire offensive team in one shot would you? And if you did, what would the likely outcome be?

Then I have another problem with your analogy. The other three you mentioned may not be any better than Terrell Owens, but they are receivers, aren't they. You wouldn't replace Owens with Guard or QB would you? Of course not. Those are not the talents you are needing.

So, perhaps the football analogy is a good one?
