Not sure if this makes a difference but, Intel stole the flash tech directly from Edig. In this case, Nest stole the Nunchi tech prior to being bought by Google possibly without the knowledge that it was stolen? Google possibly wanted to put it behind them? Also, Google recently affirmed their support of Nest and there was a big shake up with the former Nest CEO being let go. Google is focusing on this now and may not have been before.
