4. Managed NAND. The key to NAND are the controllers, which manage the operations in various applications like solid-state drives (SSDs). There is a shift from raw NAND--or discrete components--to managed NAND.

In other words, they are shifting from the typical NFTL type controllers that do one thing, translate high level OS file attributes into an abbreviated condition and moving to ideas that are much more versatile.

Managed NAND means an OS having an interface that cuts out discrete components.
