It doesn't matter if you don't pick the low as long as you make profit or increase your position.  Just review NOT's history and one notes there were lot's of places to get in on the low side, and being the great stock it is, it always came back up.  You could have bought at 6 when it continued to go back to the 3's, but it went back up past 7.00 so it really doesn't matter.  Being that most all here believe the sp is going to do great things, it becomes a theoretical no brainer that what goes down will go up.  The real issue is one of patience.  Look how many weeks the sp can linger on the high side before it comes down.  If you sold after a high at 8.50 and it goes to 9.50, it will likely retrace to possibly 7.50 at some point.  If that doesn't work out and it stayed high, you are still only trading your non-core shares and you still made a profit on them.  You then wait for another lull or obvious place where shareholders aren't happy with the price where one and all are claiming we are way undervalued and get back in there for the next leg up.  It's not foolproof but if you trade your "fun" shares and always sell after you've made a profit, preferably after a hike following great news, you really can't complain.  You still have to weigh the number of times people have been prepared to go to the moon and it only really happens very rarely.  It did happen to NOT in Sept. when it moved from a relatively unexciting little stock to a world class hit (not withstanding Windfall which never really caught the imagination as did D.E.).  Since then it has been up and down with huge sp volatility,  a swing traders delight.  I don't think anyone can honestly say they never would have liked the chance to sell and buy back in when NOT went from 7 to sub 4.  Just takes a little courage and detachment.... but not with your core.
