Company Overview

In 2007, Noront discovered a nickel, copper, platinum and palladium discovery at the deposit now known as Eagle’s Nest. Since the discovery of Eagle One (renamed Eagle's Nest) in August 2007, Noront has invested approximately $100 million in exploration to date in the Ring of Fire.

Since the initial discovery in 2007, Noront has made additional discoveries including:

  • The Blackbird chromite deposits,
  • Eagle Two, a nickel, copper discovery,
  • AT-12, a nickel, copper, platinum and palladium discovery,
  • Thunderbird, a vanadium, iron, titanium deposit, and
  • The Triple J Gold Zone.

Noront’s current objectives are:

  • Advancing the Eagle’s Nest project development through technical studies, feasibility studies and permitting,
  • Exploration drilling at the Eagle's Nest Complex to identify new Ni-Cu sulphide deposits,
  • Additional drilling on the Blackbird chromite deposits with the objective of increasing the Company's chromite resources,
  • Advancing the development of the Blackbird chromite deposits through additional technical studies,
  • Thorough analysis of AT-12 data to define and prioritize targets to be tested in upcoming winter programs when access is less challenging, and
  • On-going and reviewing and prioritization of additional regional exploration.

In fiscal 2012, Noront intends to spend approximately $15 million dollars on these objectives.

  • ALAN COUTTS

    CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

    Mr. Coutts is a mining executive with over 25 years of experience in all aspects of exploration, feasibility, construction and production of mineral deposits. He has worked both domestically and abroad in a variety of roles and across multiple commodities. Most recently, he was the Managing Director of Xstrata Nickel Australasia based in Perth, Australia. He was General Manager at the Brunswick Mine, Canada before relocating to Australia. Previous to that, Mr. Coutts occupied roles that included General Manager, Manager of Mining, Chief Geologist and Regional Exploration Manager, mostly with Falconbridge. Mr. Coutts holds an Honours degree in Geology from the University of Alberta and has Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) status in the province of Ontario.

  • Paul Parisotto

    CHAIR OF THE BOARD, AUDIT COMMITTEE, DIRECTOR

    Mr. Parisotto is the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Chantrell Ventures Corp. He was formerly the President and Chief Executive Officer of Arizona Star Resource Corp.

    From November 2008 to June 2009 he was the Co-Interim CEO of Noront Resources Ltd and most recently was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Tamaka Holdings Inc., a private gold exploration and development company. Previously, Mr. Parisotto provided investment banking services to the mining industry.Mr. Parisotto has been President of Coniston Investment Corp. from October 1999 to the present. Coniston is a private firm specializing in providing investment banking services including the raising of equity and debt and providing mergers and acquisitions advisory services to small market capitalization companies which are either private or public.

    Prior to these current responsibilities, Mr. Parisotto was Manager, Original Listings at The Toronto Stock Exchange from 1985 to 1994. During his tenure at the TSE he was involved in the listing process for over 250 companies.

  • Ted Bassett

    CHAIR SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE , DIRECTOR

    Mr. Bassett is a Professional Engineer with over 40 years of experience in mine engineering and project management. Mr. Bassett has a successful track record in the supervision and construction of large capital projects including but not limited to the BHP Olympic Dam Expansion Project in Australia, the Goro Nickel Project, the Voisey’s Bay Nickel Project and the Diavik Diamond Project.

    Mr. Bassett has held several senior project management positions over the course of his career. Most recently he was the Project Director, Jansen Potash Project (August 2010 to August 2011) and previously President of BPM Project Management Inc., a private company providing consulting services to the resource industry (October 2009 to August 2010) and Project Director, Olympic Dam Expansion Project, BHP Billiton Inc., Australia (November 2006 to October 2009).

  • Tom Anselmi, P.Eng

    DIRECTOR, GOVERNANCE & COMPENSATION COMMITTEE

    Mr. Anselmi is a professional engineer and is currently President and COO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (“MLSE”). A Toronto native, Mr. Anselmi graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical University prior to receiving a degree in civil engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1985.
    Mr. Anselmi joined MLSE in 1996 as Vice President and Project Director for the overall development of the Air Canada Center. In 2004, he was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer responsible for the business operations of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC and the Toronto Marlies. Mr. Anselmi has been instrumental in establishing MLSE as one of the most successful sports and entertainment entities in the world.
    Tom is a recognized community leader, actively involved in Get Active Toronto and MLSE`s Team Up Foundation.

  • Yuanqing Xu

    Mr. Yuanqing Xu is the Head of the Americas Region for Baosteel Resources International Company Limited ("Baosteel Resources"), a subsidiary of the Baosteel Group. Mr. Xu has held several senior positions within Baosteel Resources including Deputy Manager of Iron & Steel Resources Development and Trading, Director of the Operation Management Department and Deputy Director of Assets and Finance Department.

    Mr. Xu holds a Bachelor Degree of Transportation Economics from Northern Jiaotong University.

  • Peter Mah

    DIRECTOR

    Mr. Peter Mah is a mining executive with over 23 years of practical underground and open pit mine experience spanning project studies, construction and operations management with some of the industry's largest producers.
    Mr. Mah's experience includes the building of two new mines and two mine expansions; his experience also includes working in remote regions of northern Canada. He is currently the Vice-President of Operations for Luna Gold Corporation and is responsible for their project development and operations in Brazil.
    As Group Executive, Newmont Mining Corporation, he was responsible for the global studies of 20-40 million ounces of underground gold projects. Prior to this role, Mr. Mah was the Mine General Manager of Ontario's first diamond mine, the Debeer's Victor mine.
    There he led the operating team during construction and operations which is producing over 600,000 carats of diamonds annually. His global experience includes the development and management of safety, health, environment, community engagement, government relations and social responsibility programs.
    Mr. Mah is a Professional Engineer with a Master's (Rock Mechanics) and Bachelor's (Mining and Mineral Process Engineering) of Applied Science from the University of British Columbia. He was a former member of the Ontario Mining Association Board of Directors and former Advisor to the Confederated School of Mines Board of Directors, Ontario

  • David Thomas, P.Geo

    DIRECTOR, AUDIT, GOVERNANCE & COMPENSATION COMMITTEE

    Mr. Thomas, P.Geo., is Managing Director (Canada) for RCF Management (Toronto) Inc. Prior to joining RCF in 2010, Mr. Thomas spent 15 years in investment banking as a mining analyst and institutional equity salesperson.
    Mr. Thomas is a geologist with an Honours Bachelor of Earth Science degree from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Science degree from Queen's University.
    As an exploration geologist, Mr. Thomas worked for eight years with Minnova Inc. and Metall Mining, exploring primarily for base metals in Canada.

  • Gregory R. Rieveley

    Chief Financial Officer

    Mr. Rieveley is a finance executive with 12 years experience in the mining and retail industries. Previously he held the position of Vice President, Internal Audit and Business Development at Harry Winston Diamond Corporation (formerly Aber Diamond Corporation), and prior to that he was the Controller for Dundee Precious Metals a mid sized copper and gold producer.

    Mr. Rieveley is a Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.

  • MARK BAKER, P.Eng

    VICE PRESIDENT, PROJECTS

    Mr. Baker has over 32 years working for mining companies and their suppliers, and with several consulting engineering companies supporting mining and other industries. He has held technical and management roles with responsibilities for developing and delivering projects, and managing project teams. He had 12 years with ICI Explosives, with roles in R&D, Engineering, and Operations, including leading plant design in the Americas and Europe, and as Engineering Manager for Canadian operations. Mr. Baker's consulting work included projects for major nickel mining companies. Recent roles include Vice President for Seneca Engineering, Vice President for Virtual Engineers, and Business Development Manager for WorleyParsons, Minerals and Metals.   • Paul G. Semple, P. Eng.

    Chief Operating Officer

    Mr. Semple's 28 year career in the mining industry has focused on feasibility studies, project development and operations of precious and base metals deposits. Much of his time was spent with Kilborn (later SNC-Lavalin) where he was involved in all aspects of global project development from initial studies through to construction and operations. During this time, Mr. Semple held various positions including Vice President and General Manager, SNC Lavalin Engineers and Constructors. Recently, Mr. Semple was Vice President of Projects for Western Goldfields Inc, and was responsible for the feasibility study and engineering/construction required to restart the Mesquite Mine. Mr. Semple holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from Queen's University and is a professional engineer.

  • Glenn Nolan

    Vice President, Aboriginal Affairs

    Glenn has advised a number of exploration and mining companies on Aboriginal engagement strategies and has provided information to Aboriginal communities on partnership development and opportunities related to resource development. He is committed to continuing the creation of greater dialogue between communities and the mineral industry.

    Currently Mr. Nolan is the first Vice President of Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada where he sits on a number of committees.

    Glenn was elected as Chief of the Missanabie Cree First Nation in 2001 and served for three consecutive terms, ending in August 2010.

  • Leanne Hall

    Vice President, Human Resources

    Leanne Hall has over 19 years of leadership experience in the human resources industry. In 1988, Leanne founded a human resources company, Woodland HR Inc., with the vision of contributing to the First Nation and Aboriginal communities of Northern Alberta by providing professional career development programs and services.

    In addition to a degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, Leanne has completed a specialized program at the Society of Human Resource Management as well as a Career Development Program at Concordia University College. She possesses expert skills in demonstrating First Nation community partnerships, promoting engagement, and encouraging relationship building. She is also a member of the Noront Resources First Nations Advisory Board, and the Canadian Institute of Mining.

  • Richard Nemis

    Chairman Emeritus

    Mr. Nemis was born in Sudbury, Ontario Canada 1938, graduated St. Charles College, Sudbury Ontario, University of Ottawa and Osgoode Hall Law School and called to the bar in the province of Ontario as Barrister and Solicitor in 1968.
    He practiced law continuously until approximately 1995, in the field of corporate, commercial and securities law. Mr. Nemis established Noront Resources Ltd. in 1983 and continued to act in a senior management position as President and CEO.
    In the fall of 2008 he was named Chairman Emeritus of Noront in recognition of his contributions to the company's success which included the discovery of "The Ring of Fire" McFaulds Lake area, north eastern Ontario. In 2010 Mr. Nemis was a co-recipient of the Bill Dennis Award for a Canadian discovery for prospecting success by the Prospectors and Developers Association at its annual convention held in Toronto, Ontario

  • Darren Blasutti

    Chair Audit Committee, Director

    Mr. Blasutti is former Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for Barrick Gold Corporation. He reported to the Chief Executive Officer and played a lead role in the strategic development of Barrick for over 13 years and executed over 25 gold mining transactions including Homestake Mining, Placer Dome and the consolidation of the world class Cortez property from Rio Tinto. The hostile acquisition of Placer Dome is Barrick's largest acquisition and one of the largest in the mining industry. Darren also led the creation of Barrick Energy, which was an innovative strategy to hedge Barrick's exposure to energy prices and protect Barrick's operating margins, and was integral to the IPO of African Barrick Gold. During his tenure at Barrick, he also led the Investor Relations function. Mr. Blassutti was previously at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he planned, supervised and managed audits for a variety of clients. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
