I think one set of black dots are orientation lines on the map. They're just too regular for collars. They line up with the edges of the JV.

In the southwest quadrant, you've got a little string of dots, and I suspect that those are conductors. The earliest aerial surveys used "string of pearls" symbols to delineate conductors.

Drilling would show up as irregular placements, IMHO. There are all sorts of factors for the ground crews to consider when collaring a hole, not the least of which is surface conditions. You don't often choose to set up a rig in a swamp, for example. You'll look for a bit of high ground nearby.

Another feature of collar locations is that they usually show the azimuth/dip of the hole as if it was a horizontal section through the collar.

Nice thought, but I think this is an old image.
