I'm fairly certain it did both depending on the side of the table one was sitting on. As in most negotiations there is give and take until both sides reach a number they are agreeable to. EDIG most likely came down from their "asking price" and Samsung came up on their offer. When you hit the right number and right terms - deal done.

Neither side likes pouring money into these legal issues UNLESS they have too much to lose by giving in or everything to gain by fighting to the bitter end.
