Sudbury's top election issues to be revealed tonight on a special broadcast of The Agenda with Steve Paikin

  • The Agenda with Steve Paikin broadcasts live from Sudbury's City Hall at 8 pm ET tonight

TORONTO, June 27, 2011 /CNW/ - As the fall provincial election approaches, tonight, local provincial Liberal, NDP and PC candidates will join The Agenda with Steve Paikin to discuss the issues that are most important to voters in northern Ontario.

PC candidate Vic Fedeli (Nipissing), NDP MPP France Gélinas (Nickel Belt), and Liberal candidate Tony Ryma (Nickel Belt) will be guests on The Agenda with Steve Paikin which broadcasts live tonight from Sudbury's City Hall. The program is part of TVO's Agenda on the Road: Your Vote 2011 tour which is making a stop in Sudbury to meet face-to-face with citizens in the region and talk about the issues they feel should be the focus of the upcoming Ontario provincial election.

Sudbury region citizens met at Laurentian University's Great Hall on Sunday for the AgendaCamp public workshop to help shape the discussion for tonight's broadcast. AgendaCamp is a TVO-hosted community forum that brings together community leaders, policymakers, and members of the public to discuss issues and present ideas about what should be the focus of the Ontario provincial election in the fall. At the end of the day, participants voted on the best ideas which will inform the questions posed to the candidates on tonight's live broadcast.

"It's great to be in Sudbury," says anchor and senior editor Steve Paikin. "This city has changed so much in the past few decades. There are a whole new set of issues that face Sudbury and Northern Ontario today and we're going to examine them on the program tonight. Walking around AgendaCamp on Sunday, seeing the way participants collaborated and came up with the list of issues they felt were important for Sudbury - whether it's poverty or education or energy - you can't help but be impressed. The participants are so committed to local and regional issues."

The Agenda on the Road: Your Vote 2011 tour will make its final stop in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in October, just ahead of the provincial election.

For five seasons The Agenda with Steve Paikin has provided Ontario with thought-provoking, insightful analysis of current affairs, going deeper on the big issues of the day with lively debates and stimulating one-on-one conversations. On March 3, 2011, The Agenda with Steve Paikin marked a significant milestone with their 1000th program.
