The system as I understand it is that it is only the margin accounts that are allowed to be used for nefarious purposes. If you can borrow from them than they can steal er um borrow from you.
If I had a margin account I would close it.
If I had an account in the US I would close it. The US exchange promises are not worth anything.
As we are in Canada so I am cautious but not sure what is the proper course of action at this point. The system here has not as yet been tested and as you have said where do you go. The brokerages are the banks and the entire system is interdependant.
I also view cash as just as risky as any other asset at this point.
