This patent is in a very different application domain than what we usually regard as "electronics". It is "power electronics", dealing with hundreds and thousands of volts and with power in the kilowatt range. This is definitely not your average AOC, server, or smartphone.
Having browsed the patent text very briefly only and lacking the images, I cannot point at any clear and outstanding advantages over competing products. But I must admit I don't speak thyristorish or power electronicish fluently.
However, I would think that switching speed and power losses might be differentiating factors.
Anyway, power electronics isn't anywhere on the company's published roadmap. It might be something for products in the more distant future, however.
