To be fair Silicon Photonic's is an option. Just not the best one. It requires bonding silicon to a 3/4 material which is expensive and challenging. Lots higher error rate. It also still requires external components. Poet is fully integrated and will turn what was multiple chips into one, saving money on fabrication and lowering the error rate per waffer. It also has a higher electon mobility because it is GaAs. So all in all yes there are other ways to get an inferior product for a higher price, but why when you can have Poet.
