What about the use of vanadium in batteries for the new Hybrid cars, which are being designed today to reduce fosil fuel consumption?

The current vanadium battery design is very heavy and bulky, mostly because of the electrolyte liquid that is required. On a weight to power availability basis, vanadium batteries are not yet even as good as lead/acid batteries. Despite the problems with lithium batteries, they are often favoured because of their weight advantage. If they can optimize the vanadium battery to even meet the lead/acid battery on weight efficiency, they will likely find a permanent place in vehicles. It's a new technology, so I would expect some improvements in that regard.

Vanadium may well be the next nickel, irreplaceable in the applications to which it is suited.
