Yes, there is a boundary condition between the ultramafic and mafic deposits that tends to accumulate PGE. I don't think that the missing assays from that one hole could be in that boundary zone. It's not clear just where that boundary is. The NR says "The ferrogabbro sills are interpreted as the mafic complement to the large ultramafic Double Eagle...", suggesting that this new zone is a derivative of the parent magma. Unlike e.g. the Bushveld layered deposits, where the separating layers lie one on the other, these in the ROF seem to be separated by flow. It's going to take a bit of work to find the transitional rocks in this magma flow.
