I think the biggest problem with the Mako-6 was that the formation (permiability) was damaged by the fluids left in the well while they waited on the new tubulars.

Plugging a well doesn't mean that they can't (or won't) go back into it though. It just seals it up so they don't have to worry about things like formation communication, corrosion, pressure, or H2S at surface.

Maybe Falcon or EOM will have a representative at this SPE conference later this month: 8th European Formation Damage Conference
