Lima, Dec. 21 (ANDINA). Mining investment in Peru totaled US$5.32 billion between January and October 2011, up 70.8 percent from US$3.11 billion a year ago, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) reported Wednesday.
The ministry said that US$787 million were invested in equipment for processing plants, US$669 million in mining equipment and US$688 million in exploration activities.
Also, US$691 million were spent on activities related to mine exploitation, US$1 billion on mining infrastructure, US$861 million on other areas and US$644 million on preparation works.
Investments made in equipment for processing plants grew 137.4 percent compared to the first nine months of last year.
Meanwhile, investments made in mining equipment increased 84 percent, investments in exploration activities went up 37.6 percent, and spending on infrastructure rose 53.9 percent.
MEM reported that mining investments in October totaled US$657 million, becoming the second month with the largest amount of investments.
