I am reminded that completely opposite verdicts can be delivered in the United States when there is a criminal case and a civil case for ostensibly the same transgression, because of different burdens of proof. OJ Simpson is a classic example - not guilty of murder but bankrupted in the civil case for damages. Not quite a parallel but not legally dissimilar either.
