Semiconductor company MosChip Semiconductor Technology has acquired the assets of Indigita, the audio video division of California-based Intellasys, for an undisclosed sum of cash and royalty.

The acquisition gives MosChip exclusive rights to Indigita's AV content manager, a system-on-a-chip for secure content management and distribution of digital media at homes.

The technology will become the base platform for the former's next generation chips that will go into consumer electronic items like camcorders, digital TV, media PC and video cameras. This is apart from nine patents, access to OEM customers like Sony and some key technologists that came with the buy.

"We have paid a small amount of cash upfront for the assets. And every time we sell a chip with their technology, we will have to pay them an 'x' amount of royalty for the next five years," said Ramachandra Reddy, CEO, MosChip.
Access to OEM customers like Sony? What do they have going on that gives them special access? BS or something real? Opty
