Number of years it takes the USPTO to make a decision to approve or deny a patent application. “The most pressing matter [for the U.S. Patent Office and its new Director David Kappos, formerly of IBM) is the length of time it takes the agency to approve -- or deny -- a patent application. It takes more than three years in many cases to get a final answer.
