STMicroelectronics, a leading name in the global semiconductor industry, has teamed up with Microsoft to develop a new a motion and orientation Human Interface Device (HID) sensor solution, likely to be featured on Windows 8.

A demonstration of the new sensor technology will be conducted at the Microsoft BUILD conference.

According to STMicroelctronics, the company is joining forces with the Windows maker to providing a complete sensor solution for the integration of “multiple sensors with processing capabilities and dedicated software in a single module.”

"By working with Microsoft to make our sensors run on Windows 8 using the iNEMO Engine, ST's HID sensor solution delivers plug-and-play, turn-key benefits on both x86 and ARM processors running the new operating system," Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Analog, MEMS and Sensors Product Group, Benedetto Vigna said in a statement.

“We have relieved equipment manufacturers of the need to develop drivers and enabled end users to enjoy the Windows 8 sensor scenarios such as screen rotation or indoor location built in Windows 8,” he added.
