Yeah, I just found a couple more articles on this subject. What I glean from this is that essentially, market makers are the middle men that we're actually buying from and selling to. As far as I can see, the only way to ever break beyond a stagnant price then, is to have volume that surpasses what an individual MMs float can handle.
