If it's going to be ''walled-garder'' and 'cashless cabin' eVU could fit the bill, plus you see that handheld in 'Airline Ops' It has cabin wireless LAN units, going from k-band to h.26 i bet... you see that unit in the pilots hand in last window to the right - aint no laptop.

If airlines wanta get away from the weight/cost of imbedded systems the eVU could run dueo-OS and go into those who want cheaper a more flexable route and R44 could go ahead and hook-up those with embedded systems and push to any-all smart-cell/laptops, but not everyone messes with laptops n wants to watch a major motion picture in their ipod...

eVU better do something sweet because these new andriod/windows based ipad hybrids with wireless capability will fill the gap with R44s system.... but then you get bact to the 'walled-garder' dellima of security.
