I think I recall someone saying that the hyperinflation in the US will start when "all the dollars come home".

I don't know how many dollars are held by foreigners out of the US but I suspect it is an awful lot. When foreigners lose confidence in the dollar they will only be able to buy assets within the US with those dollars (because no-one will take them in exchange for foreign assets). That is when they will race to buy any asset in the US with their paper dollars and the US stock market and real estate market will go up "like a NASA space launch".

A piece of land in the US, or a mine, or a share in Exxon will always be worth something. If I was China I'd be asking the US Treasury for real assets to back all the paper I was holding, e.g. mineral rights, Government buildings etc.
