Fivenine: Why would Intel persist in going it alone when it could take out POET for a fraction?
Do they not know how long it will take to solve the problem that POET has - especially considering that the one true path has now been patented?
Certainly other players are convinced there is a Silicon Way of Photonic Integration. And, regarding the European initiative, or what Intel is trying, or whatever we have discussed here, there are certainly improvements over the current state of the are, i.e. bonding external lasers to the silicon chip. How this compares to the POET technology remains to be seen. However, it is not necessarily the best solution that wins the prize. (Or why do you think most people still have Windows on their desktop computers instead of Unix (today: Linux)?)
So it is crucial for POET to be the first to reach the finish line. Hopefully the prototype of a fully-functioning integrated VCSEL transceiver isn't that far away from now!
