It would be possible if they issed Convertable Debentures to a partner for product development, that they could receive a large chunck of money to be repaid (usually years down the road with interest) or the Debt becomes converted to shares at a pre-determined price which may be more beneficial to the Loaner as the price could rise in the coming years. However that adds further dilution to us existing shareholders. I hope if they do this type of deal it is a non convertable instrument.
