Just a quick thought from my side:
1. Up to now SiC semiconductors is a high power technology (see tons of pdf files e.g. at www.power-mag.com), not aimed for CPU, RAM etc and not for optics (laser, IR detectors...), well, yes, this can change. Like GaN, nanotubes, there is potential.
2. The technology seems to be very complex... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjG2N6Fxa6w
2. If SiC-technology would be in the state state of developement like POET, there would be no need to put in 650 millions of USD and a consortium of companies to build up this technology.
Our the R&D of POET is in a different state, at the front doors of the foundries, ready for production. But - yes, not in production yet, this will still take some time. But next year - let us have a look at the next generations of smart phones then! Low low power!!!
To me it seems that with SiC they are tryig to solve problems POET already solved - now.
