I think that your points are well made and under normal circumstances this way of purchasing gold is acceptable. However, it depends on how far one thinks things can get out of control in society. Bank boxes can be seized but also so can gold set aside in various investment instruments. It's been done before and I think one should always plan for a worst case scenario. It is true, gold kept on your property could be very dangerous. One would have to be very careful and think outside the box to make sure assets are safe under ones own protection. There are pros and cons to all things I guess. A one prong approach however you look at it is not a good idea if that prong breaks.
