In my opinion the Port thing is very over rated. The dock they have a deal with is very small and just across the bay from it Arctic Construction is building a huge deep sea dock. It is called Stewart World Port and they will be looking for customers so I really don't think shipping is any kind of an issue.
That extension is for the Red Chris Mine and to feed another smaller line that will be built between the turn off to the Red Chris Mine and the village of Iskut. It is interesting that the line between Bobquinn and Red Chris is being built a lot heavier than required for Red Chris.
Maybe future supply for mines further North? Lets hope that our Copper Fox is #2 to connect to the NTL!
I talked to a local Hydro Rep the day before yesterday and asked about that delay on the NTL. Her comment was that it should only be two or three weeks late. FWIW.
Most of the wire is already strung, they are just about done that part.
The Port facility that CUU had reserved is actually fairly small and it would be somewhat limited by available land. This facility was originally owned by the Granduc Mine.
Across the bay however is the barge facility that the Cassiar mine shipped out of for years. This is the area that is very close to final permitting for a large ship loading facility being proposed by Arctic Construction.
Being very familiar with this area I really think the availability of a port is a non issue as the people in that area need the work that a new facility would bring and will do all they can to make it happen.
There is lots of room at the port of Stewart. Arctic Construction is in the early stages of building a very large port facility there which would handle the output from several mines easily.
