PIC Conference Brussels- Still await 2 abstracts

Of all the speakers (Suresh is scheduled mid afternoon, March 7), only two have failed to deliver an abstract regarding their topic. Guesses on one, anyone, anyone?

Re: New POET Technologies address in San José

"Everything else has long gone to Singapore."

Hey Rainer, does that include Juthika Basak, Director, Product Development? Still listed as POET on LinkedIn.

Re: II-VI surges on order boom and strong earnings

"II-VI is itself investing heavily in its own infrastructure, with new facilities to manufacture vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) under construction. “We continue to install capital equipment, expand our operations, and scale our capability to manufacture compound semiconductor materials that will enable us to manufacture next-generation optoelectronic devices including VCSELs,” Mattera said.

In fact, figures reveal that II-VI spent nearly $10 million on the ramp of that VCSEL platform in the latest quarter, mostly on engineering activity, bringing total investment to around $32 million thus far."

Well, they don't seem too concerned about us playing in their back yard just yet.

Re: Grasping at straws

FJ said "POET is a public company and as such they do have to advise shareholders of product development. So I do believe they will advise us of meaningful progress towards the alpha prototype. And I do believe that the alpha prototype will generate NRE as has been stated by the current management team."

Again, I would love to agree, but they have a lot of leeway in defining material news, and could easily argue that a function component is not material until it is proven to work in a functional product. It is splitting hairs, but I could see them doing this and using the greater leverage an end product provides. They may find NRE to be restrictive to their plan, though I would welcome anything that moves us upward at this point.

Re: Grasping at straws

I'd love to agree ark but, they have shown no evidence of telegraphing anything until the last minute, and announcing the completion of a component piece, even one as iconic as an optoelectronic transceiver, may create noise (including some with hostile intent) that impedes their ability to move it toward a final product. I respect your position though as I believed the same as you until recently.

Beating up my earlier analogy, announcing a glider or an engine alone did not make the Wright brothers plane take off. So I think it is with the transceiver, until it is in the AOC as expected.
