If you want the write-off, the sale has to occur this year. The buy-in can be whenever you wish. Just not within 30 days.
My point is...you don't have to sell first and be totally out of the stock for 30 days. Assuming you're committed to taking a loss this year and have the money, buy first, wait thirty days and then sell your original shares on or before December 31st.

The best way to take the loss this year (assuming one has the extra money) would be to buy/double-up now, wait 30 days and sell the original shares before year end.
Stock goes up...you have more shares. Stock goes down...your tax loss write-off increases relative to the original cost basis.

Hello all. I need a little help.
It appears to me that we're getting pretty low on cash. With no revenue, it seems like we might have a few months tops. This makes little sense to me as two new members joined the board.
Other than some marbles, what am I missing???
