I have previously transfered in kind to my TFSA at the low of the previous day's trading range. My accounts are with CIBC. I would think these 'rules' should be standardized across all FI's... but apparently that is not the case. I would be fighting them on that if I were you.
I hear you... I wonder if the borkers would get pi$$ed if we keep canceling and re-booking if she does drop further.
Here's to hoping we don't have to! Pre-market games to instill fear most likely.
After seeing today's (ugly) close, I decided to give Scotia a call to see if I could cancel my cash account transfers to my RRSP and TFSA I placed on Saturday @ $0.92 to 'take advantage' of today's low to minimize capital gains and maximize shares transfered. To my surprise, they did in fact let me do this... so i transferred an additional ~500 shares to my TFSA (6470 @ $0.85).
Just wanted to share in case anyone else is in the same situation.
Cheers
Looks like you are going to come out ahead on this Camaro! I am happy for you :)
Kicking myself today, but obviously it could have went either way. Hopefully 0.90 holds and we close positive so we are all winners. Let's get that management update out!
Cheers
Upade on this - I just compelted my transfer from my Scotia cash account to my Scotia TFSA account. Contrary to what I was told originally, I was able to get the low of Thursdays trading range ($0.92). I guess the CSR I spoke with didn't know what he was doing.
Those extra ~500 shares are going to go a long way, I hope!
I suggest those interested in making a similar transfer call in today to get what will (hopefully) be a price that we will never see again :)
Great tips, thanks J4F and CA.
I just got off the phone with Scotia, and to qualify for 2016 TFSA allowance they are only able to take today's closing price when the tranfer is made after midnight tonight... I have to wait until close to confirm the number of shares to transfer to net $5500.
Happy 2016 everyone! This is a great forum.
