mtzorfas, the why sell now vs is about risk and psychology. If you wait till the takeover closes you are guaranteed (unless voted down) to get 0.1755 shares of Goldcorp and 1/3 share NEW Probe. When the deal was announced the total value was $5.00/share. What no one knows is what goldcorp will be trading for on the day the takeover closes. If Goldcorp continues to go up you end up with 0.1755 of a more valuable Goldcorp share plus the 1/3 NEW Probe share. If Goldcorp goes down you can end up with less then a $5.00 value. Add in some people would prefer to take the money and do what they want with it vs wait, etc.
If the market thought there was another potential buyer out there we would be trading for more then the combined Goldcorp plus NEW Probe value. So far I haven't seen it. ... Been There
