I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I seem to recall reading that the deflated balls were used only during the first half, and that all of the winning points were scored during the second half. Admittedly, I never tried to verify that, but if it is true, there would be no causation. Still woudn't make the "deflation" the right thing to have done, but it would not have had any effect on the outcome of the game.

Corrections welcome. Wish Ease was still around. Certainly, he could set us all straight on this. :)
