Graphene Oxide (GO) does not reinforce concrete like most people think of concrete reinforcement which is usually deformed steel bars or reinforcing steel grid fabrications. GO acts more like a catalyst, seeding the growth of cement hydration crystals or flowers.

A way to viualize the process is to think of the crystals growing molecularly, filling the voids left by the absorption of water from the initial wet concrete slurry, and anchoring to the graphene that is an order of magnitude stronger than steel. You are correct to infer that all research to date has been academic. Looking forward to Larisplast's testing of their concrete. If it performs as promised, it will change the contruction industry.
