Lucien Bouchard applauds the report of the Bureau d'audiences publiques sur l'environnement (BAPE), accepting the proposed framework for the exploration and exploitation of shale gas.
The president of the Oil and Gas Association of Quebec (QOGA) said at a news conference Monday afternoon that he supports the recommendations of the BAPE and the government response.
According to Mr. Bouchard, the report demonstrated a "genuine effort to objective analysis. " He proposed taking the time to study and discuss the "responsible development of gas resources. "
In his view, the exploitation of shale gas "will be realized only if the test of public interest. "
The recommendations, "said Lucien Bouchard, trace the path of a process of reflection and prudence, proper to reassure the people of Quebec about the possibility or desirability of a responsible development of its gas resources. "
In uttering those words, Lucien Bouchard therefore agree that splitting the rock containing the gas is limited. It recognizes the need to ensure that the Government "a fair share of gas exploitation"by the payment of royalties.
The boss QOGA estimated the commercial value of shale gas in Quebec remains to be demonstrated.
