“The transmitter co-integrates on the same silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafer a heterogeneously integrated III-V on-silicon laser source

The above tells you that the laser is produced separately and bonded to the wafer. There have been really big challenges associated with this approach which have been ongoing for years. Even if they can do this in such a way as to reach an acceptable relaxation of the lattice mismatch under thermal stress they still have issues of optical performance through that interface.

Good to see the ongoing efforts and money being spent to tackle this problem. What it continues to demonstrate is that the POET solution has very high value to the industry. POETs claims of being the only monolithic platform to fully integrate electronics and photonics on the same wafer in the same process flow continues to be that ultimate solution. And as indicated by the detector results these devices will likely exceed the performance standards of existing packaged solutions.

It seems the forum is in the mood to talk only negative today so I apologise for disrupting that flow…lol.

I will go back to ignoring the board today.
