The one thing that people should keep in mind is that POET will not announce anything about the VCSEL until it is done. Until it has been produced in a repeatable fashion at the correct mode. Geoff’s design is a breakthrough that has never been done before and it took him many years to get there. Now POET has taken that design and using modern equipment they are creating a process flow that works in high volume with extreme accuracy. There are going to be many ways to achieve this and POET is taking advantage of multiple process flows to determine the best solution to produce Geoff's design at high volume and at high yield.
It takes time and money to do this. The money side has been addressed so give them time to complete that task. They are not going to report a thing until the VCSEL has reached a stage of development where it can be declared as meeting certain standards. It is going to take some time but by no means does it suggest failure. On the contrary there is likely to be a number of processes and tool sets and epistacks that will get the job done. Geoff did it with 30 year old equipment in a university lab.
