If I understand you correctly Orange Cat your reference is to the PET side as a casino bet? And you are voicing concerns with the delay of integrating the VCSEL into the transceiver.
I don’t think at this point the PET side is even being considered by POET. I think their task at hand is so big and so dependent on their focus and their resources that trying to develop a GaAs processor would be totally counterproductive to their goal of commercializing POET products. I would not rule out the possibility that there could be work going on that we don’t know about specifically related to the PET side but that is certainly not on my radar as part of this investment today.
If they are successful at full integration of that tiny and powerful optical engine it will be a total disruption to the world of photonic integration. I think that market is probably large enough that we would never need any success at PET. But if you are right it could be there waiting in the future for development but I would not even consider it as a bet right now. There is so much going on with the acquisitions of 2 companies and integrating not only those businesses but those technologies. And of course those acquisitions have IP which continues to expand POETs goals of becoming the solution provider for integrated photonics where future applications are exploding well beyond the limitations of the electronics world.
By the way good post Sula.
