Could be. They will only report results based on testing across many wafer lots. And the testing would include accelerated life testing (aging) to establish commercial quality. When they report the integrated VCSEL I think we can be certain that it will not be for the market but will be very specific to meeting all required commercial parameters. They will not report until they have very consistent results. I would assume there will be some number of failed die but the great thing as Abel mentioned is the wafer level testing. Thus money is not wasted on packaging or further processing.
I think the bottom line is that they can tolerate a low yield initially and still be extremely profitable due to wafer level testing of the fully integrated solution.
