Good visual Rainer. Definitely a meaningful view. What needs to be recognized is that POET has never been able to do anything like this coming out of the lab or out of BAE.
The process has been fine-tuned and they have found the right epi-wafer supplier and the right foundry to take POET these commercial levels.
Look at this statement made from BAE on Feb 24, 2014.
“Having IR detection for the first time is a major milestone for the POET technology,” said Dr. Pane Chao, technical director at BAE Systems’ Microelectronics Center.
Where POET is today:

Poet's detectors differ from conventional devices in that they are resonant cavity designs, which enable greater sensitivity in detector applications. Benchmark limits, such as responsivity, on Poet's detector device, far exceed the performance of detectors in the market today. At a bias voltage of 3.3 volts, Poet detectors have demonstrated a room-temperature thyristor-enhanced saturated responsivity of 13 amps/watts at an input optical power threshold of fewer than 200 milliwatts and at an aperture of 10 millimetres. This is about 20 times higher on a three-times-smaller device relative to typical 850-nanometre PiN (P-type, intrinsic and N-type) diodes.
As I have stated a number of times. POET knows what the capability of their devices are based engineering models using the existing tool set and the adjustments that have been made over that time period. They expect to meet well defined commercial requirements just from the move out of the lab. Clearly the detector results speak to the capacity to exceed the required metrics as they continue the optimization process “to fully achieve the true potential for these integrated opto-electronic devices”
