Great post Oogee you inspired me to think about the IR device (at least that is the way this post started). We know that the US military and NASA really saw the benefits of POETs unique capabilities. And we have read of the progress that has been made in the optical integration of the VCSEL which of course is a thyristor down to 50nm as of July in Yao's CV. Now consider that along with this work the BAE technical staff could be gaining technical proficiency in the new POET procedures to advance their efforts in optimizing the IR device or other military related applications. Remember that POET is focused on the commercial market and the quickest possible applications that can be introduced into that market. BAE is of course interested in the IR applications which they participated in the development of. It would not be a stretch that IR development has been on going for a long time now by BAE and has reached a point of maturity where POET is ready to license that part or potential sell the military applications to BAE maybe with some involvement from Mr. Warrior’s company. In the past we believed that IR would be the first application to use POET.
This could in fact be one of the early sources of revenue for POET without POET really lifting a finger because they are way too tied up with the commercial applications. In other words there are many different ways that POET can receive revenue and we should understand that with the new management team in place and Mr. Warrior’s understanding of the military market this will be part of the new business plan. It could be in progress as we speak as a peripheral source of income to support the goals of this new POET team towards the commercial development of the POET optical interface.
The new engineering team is being hired to commercialize the optical interface in a commercial foundry environment. That is apparently one of the new goals. But don’t discount the fact that POET also intends to be an IP licensing entity. I very much believe they will be working in parallel with Joint Venture partners as part of that mix. Conceivably the new engineering team is already in place at a joint venture partners facility. Would this not be the quickest path to produce a commercial ready optical interface? And as a reminder what is one of the stated goals of this new management team. It is to accelerate the commercial development of POET.
This team has been assembled to monetize POET as quickly as possible and they are going to be making moves that will establish many paths for POET to enter the market. I think that monetizing the military side with the least possible effort will be a very early part of that strategy. After all why did they bring Mr. Warrior into the picture he does not even receive POET options. But then again nether does Tony Blevins.
