@pizza, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
today's Big Blue is frankly what I'll call lipstick on a pig.
they don't innovate any more, anymore than HP does.
evolution has to come from a hungry organism, and every time the bigs need to meet their arbitrary EPS targets, because of the distorted reward structure, they nuke the technical mitochondria, and keep the suits.
they just blew
another quarter (their 12th one straight) and Rommety -- who many (
here and
here) say is taking the fall for many of Palmisano's gaffes --
has a very specific earnings goal for 2015.
she has publicly stated she will destroy the company to achieve it, if she has to.
if your read between the lines, you'll understand that the earnings goal isn't the company's: it's hers. in other words, she wants the same kind of golden parachute that Palmisano got (a whopping $241 million retirement package).
anybody with eyes that chooses to look should see echoes of IBM of the 90's.
and I don't think the world has another Lou Gerstner in its quiver to save them.
as someone who's done work at ITSO in RTP, I am pretty confident in my opinion that they are no longer
this IBM.
and that saddens me.
