That's always the big question: what happens between the reporting days? It's quite possible the short position on the 16th was significantly different - in either direction. They conceivably have covered many already, perhaps accounting for some of the increase this week. The shorters know the dates and can easily do their work in between and then increase or decrease their position on reporting dates to make it appear however they like. Maybe we shouldn't place too much stock in these numbers.
