IBM Systems VP on Bloomberg a few minutes ago, talked about their divestiture to Global Foundries with an ongoing partnership, my guess it is IBM's way of hedging that huge payout, so I would suspect they would benefit from work that comes out of the now GF facilities. A smart move by them.
However, IBMs longer term systems strategy is to utilize software to increase efficiency of memory and storage by as much as 90% (sounds like a work around that utilizes pattern recognition to parse access to areas of memory). As an example only, think about those banner ads that pop up on your screen from vendors you have recently searched, this is targeted marketing software,essentially same concept for memory retrieval though likely a completely different method.

Anyway, POET's ability to aggregate several memory functions on a single chip as a hardware solution will blow away a software enablement tool.
