The current MAINSTREAM CMOS node is 22nm with 14nm starting to rear its head after many delays. However PET at 40nm is faster than 3-4 node reductions from the current CMOS equivilent. The node reduction guideline goes 22, 14, 10, 7, 5 then nothing. They all know that 5 is the lowest possible and that is just theory. Even the great intel says getting to 7 or 5nm may not happen and will certainly take years and Billions of dollars. They admit that by 2020 its all done. And that is Intel, they have tons of money and R&D facilities. The smaller companies probably cant get past 14nm financially and stay competitive. So basically what was said by Poet is that our 40nm chip will outperform your 7nm to 5nm chip, if you can even build it. The writting is on the wall. Also if you speak with any of those in the industry III-V materials are the obvious replacement for CMOS in the near term. The only problem was with hole mobility in the N channel, which we solved. Carbon Nano tubes and Graphene are just not ready for mainstream. This is why AM is excited, he just found the successor to silicon CMOS.
