I certainly don't claim to know why the performance figures apparently have dropped, but really, they have only said that 40nm POET will be equivilent to the best Si CMOS.
I believe that 40nm was required for space issues in the application and I do believe that we will see a significant reduction in power consumption at that node. This could be all that is required to inspire the masses. Furthermore, because of the reduced manufacturing costs, the fabs want to do it at that node too, for it is far easier than the smaller nodes.
I do not believe that the share price is suffering because of the reduction to 40nm to achieve the required performance to debut the chip.
The share price is suffering because there is no revenue.
But there will be....
