Here is my take on this ( perhaps niave as well ). A few years ago an investment house ran ads on TV describing how they do their DD before investing in that company. They visited a huge factory and refused to invest in them because they saw flaws in their manufacturing system. They visited a small tire manufacturing company in scandinavia that no one knew and yet they invested in them because they saw that they were the only tire manufacturing company in all of scandanavia and next door to Russia. They did their DD ( mind you this was a TV commercial ).
Now as an investor can you not ask to go visit POET headquarters and their R&D facilities? Would this not be part of DD. So if Pinetree is investing heavily into POET, perhaps it is because they saw this little "tire company" that will explode and provide the world with new "tires"......without being accused of insider trading!!
P.S. I'm up for a road trip to the U of C?
