Poet has been hit by the "if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't true" thinking repeatedly. The tech is so all encompassing and so disruptive, people think yeah yeah I've heard this before, whatever. They think there's no way some professor no one has heard of has figured it out all out on his own.
Most people's perceptions are so grounded in their own mental inertia and sleepiness that they cannot fathom the groundbreaking creativity that a few geniuses possess. You don't know what you don't know until someone else tells you that it was worth knowing (no apologies to D Rumsfeld)
