Hi Ed et.al.

I hear you loud and clear.

Last new car I purchased was in 1996 for my wife (A Ford Blazer - her choice).

At the time I drove a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder and finally gave it to my daughter-in-law for one dollar in 2007.

It had 560,000 km on and she drove it for another 60,000.

In 2007 I purchased a used Lexus 300GS with 126,000kms on the clock. Paid C$15,000 for it. I still drive it and it now has almost 300,000kms. Mechanically its in great shape but showing some signs of aging via rust spots. I plan to drive it for another three years and then, if I'm still aware and able to drive, I'll look for another used car or truck. Why spend so much money on a new car when there is still life in other used vehicles?

My rule of thumb? If I can run it for 10cents a km for what I paid for it, and a futher 10cents a km for maintenence, its a deal. So far, I'm ahead of my financial goal.

In today's economy, I see a huge market for used cars. Makes sense to me.

"We live in interesting times"

Good Luck to all!
