In my understanding of the process, the length of time it may take to formally receive a patent is completely unpredictable. I'm sure you've come across the term "patent pending" before. That's where Fouad is, now.

The link below references a number of existing patents and/or scientific publications (the related art) that may be used by their owners to challenge the issuance of the patent. A challenge could come from anywhere, really. I should make clear, I'm an observer of the process, not an expert.
