He gave a great perspective on the future development of the energy storage market and interestingly how important all the verticle makets for battery storage are to the success of a battery manufacturing company.
Clearly his focus is on all of these markets. So when we previously talk about Tesla - the EV auto company, we are now looking at a company that is broadening its scope and with its resources, can be a energy storage industry giant.
You are also correct that Straubel is still talking about cylindrical cells. It seems to me that just like the lead acid battery pack previously accepted as an industry standard, the auto companies will need to standardize on the format of the new Lithium batteries in order to achieve lowest parts cost. At the moment, only Tesla is using a cylindrical battery cell.
